Established in 1977, Flintshire Farms was started by Ken and Cathy Hook, both wildlife biologists by training.
The word "Flintshire" means high enclosure which aptly describes our 30 acre flight pen complex to house our flocks of Pheasants.
Flinton is situated in beautiful Eastern Ontario, about 1 hour drive north of Kingston. The clean, country air of Flinton is perfect for serious Pheasant raising and Flintshire Farms has grown to be a major worldwide Pheasant operation.
We started with a flock of Ring-neck Pheasants which were grown for hunting and meat purposes. Ring-necks are beautiful birds and are good sport to hunt but they have some disadvantages for meat production. We overcame these disadvantages with the development of the Flintshire White Pheasant. Today we only produce Pheasants for meat.
Because the Pheasant business is so specialized, we feel the only way to have total quality control is to be an integrated operation. That is, to operate our own breeding program, hatchery, growing facility, and processing plant. This way, no operations are contracted to outside companies where we could lose some of our control on quality. This has been our vision from the start.
